Position Overview
As a Data Operations Engineer you will be part of the team responsible for all customer specific data needs at MedOrion – including initial solutioning & implementation, building customer specific ETLs, ongoing data work to enable new features, and customer success oriented analytics.
You will own the overall integration of customers’ data into the MedOrion platform, designing dbt (data build tool) based ETL routines, responding to internal and external data needs and making sure the customers’ data enables their strategic goals and overall success. This requires a business oriented data professional, experienced working with customers and cross functional teams, possessing a broad skill set, business acumen and a bias for action. Technical skills for this role span several categories: data engineering, analytics engineering, business intelligence, etc.
We are searching for business oriented data professionals who understand how to create the most value in the company. Successful candidates will be excited to own engagements, actively driving conversations around data externally and internally, and are comfortable operating in small startup environments. This is an individual contributor role, reporting to the Head of Data Operations. As part of our growth strategy, this position is based in the U.S., fully remote (aligning work hours to ET zone), and will work closely with an international team. Potential travel up to 10%.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage/support individual customers’ data needs, act as a trusted advisor
- Onboard new customers and solutions, building out custom SQL ETLs in our dbt framework
- Build tooling and data models to enable faster time to value, increase data observability, and reduce manual effort
- Work across all functional areas of Medorion; helping R+D define and refine new solutions, working with customer success to demonstrate value to customers, etc
- Own ongoing operational work; data ingestion, data quality and observability, data products
- Contribute to roadmap for operational systems and features
- Ask the right questions of internal and external customers and partners to understand what information would be valuable, find relevant data that is available or make a business case to get it, and share insights from analyses, organized in such a way to enable decision-making or desired action by stakeholders
- Carry out ad hoc data tasks to enable our customers
Qualifications
- Working experience with modern data stack tools
- 5+ years experience working with Cloud Data Warehouses (We use Bigquery)
- 5+ years working with sql, building ETLs, analyzing complex data sets
- 3+ years working with dbt including creating models, adding tests and configuring projects
- Experience with python and/or shell scripting
- Experience working in data in a customer facing/adjacent role, like technical implementations, consulting
- Experience working in small startup environments, appreciation for the challenges and opportunities it presents
- Experience owning parts of the data stack, making internal and external improvements

- Experience working with sensitive data in highly regulated environments – PII, PHI, HIPAA

- Salary range: $150-175k
